The county of
Lancashire was well served with railway lines connecting the big cities, heavy
industry and the rural towns. As the home of many of BR's last
operational steam locomotives, it attracted a lot of attention from
enthusiasts as the steam era drew to a close. But this book, in full
colour, covers much more than just the final fling of steam and has
superb pictures taken from the late 1950s to 1968 throughout the
county. These are accompanied by informative captions from the
author, who hails from
Manchester.
A number of outstanding
photographers have contributed to the book and many pictures are
published for the first time, including some rarely seen locations
and stations.
