With renewed interest in this
wonderful railway line crossing from England into Scotland and
revival plans for parts of it actively underway, now is a good time
to republish this superb photographic tribute to the Waverley route.
As author Roger Siviter states in the Introduction : 'The Waverley
route, together with the Somerset & Dorset, is perhaps the most
sadly missed of all the lines that were closed in the 'Beeching Era'
of the 1960s.'
Many of the photographs are quite
outstanding and capture the essence of the Waverley better than any
other book published on the route. The historical background of the
line is traced and then the book splits the route into three
sections: Carlisle to Riccarton Junction; Riccarton Junction to
Galashiels; and Galashiels to Edinburgh with accompanying
specially-drawn maps.
Softback, 215 x 273 mm, 128 pages,
190 black and white photos and illustrations.
